Hibiscus are one of my favorite flowers... I have a variety of them planted and they have begun to bloom. I don't know the cultivar of this first one. Got the seeds from mom-in-law before she passed away, so I just call it "Tiny B". Sometimes it puts out pink flowers, but her first one this year is white. I had a large white many years ago named Blue River II but it died...actually the leaves look very much like pot and it was planted out by the back fence. I'm pretty sure it started loosing leaves to neighbors who walked down the alley and thought they had scored the motherload. I planted one of the 'Luna' red last spring but like a several other things in the garden last summer it didn't make it. So I will enjoy yours along with you.
Toni... I have the Texas Star Hibiscus, both white and red... and the leaves resemble pot plants. I brought one to the plant sale at the church last year and you should have heard some of the comments about me selling dope at church! LOL Sorry about your Luna. I've seen them for sale this year in a couple of places, but it was the 3 gallon size and they were nearly $20! Thank you Tina and Cayuga. I hope to have more to show very soon. Eileen... if you think the ladies are pretty, wait until you see my handsome "Uncle Frank". Here's "Tiny B" this evening. I guess she gets sun-burned during the day? Because now she has a pink tint to her. "Tiny B" after a day in the sun ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
I am fascinated with hibiscus, but currently only have one growing in the garden. Your pics make me want to go out and get some more.
Eclectic... I'm addicted to them! I even recently bought a dwarf tropical one, knowing full well that it wouldn't survive my winter. But it was so pretty and only $4.00 Here's another one of the Lunas that greeted me this morning... Hibiscus - Luna 'Pink Swirl' ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
And here's the dwarf tropical I just had to have. I know... it won't survive the winter, but for $4.00 I couldn't leave it behind. Dwarf Tropical Hibiscus ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Hi Cheryl,..i can well understand your addiction to Hibiscus as they are stunning,..such big beautiful blooms and your Dwarf Tropical is a winner. I planted some Hibiscus in my hot house and they are just starting to put in an appearance,..Texas ones of course .
Oh Cheryl, Your Hibiscus are so pretty! I have the Luna Pink Swirl, but it is looking a bit rough right now. We had a very late frost (I think it set a record) and a lot of plants got nipped. I am hoping it will be OK. I was just talking to it earlier today, and trying to encourage it. I will miss those fabulous flowers!
Kay, I was actually surprised that these survived our unusually cold winter. When the tag said that it was hardy for my zone, I thought "yeah right". Sure hope yours pulls through
Thanks Cheryl. It has been such a great plant. It is pretty big, but I'm worried that the flower buds got frozen. They look kind curled up and sad. Poor Luna.
Nice Cheryl. All mine made it through the winter and are just showing signs or blooming. I have 2 Texas Stars and 3 Blue River so thank you.
