Captain, you are so right--the seasons are changing. We are a long way from frost, but the light has changed. In summer our sunlight is strong, almost harsh. Now it has a softer edge to it, and even during the afternoon it isn't "a wall of light" like it is in summertime. Autumn is wonderful, although we don't get the tree colors y'all do.
Its the same here in the south of the UK.Very chilly but bright mornings and no frost-yet. I've just heard on the radio that an organisation that monitors the seasons says that Autumn is going to be later this year-tell that to my prunus incisa which started turning at the end of August.
Capt, I hope we don't have an early frost. It was chilly here this morning and supposed to be again tonight, but then warming up and rain for the weekend. I mustn't complain as dry as the summer was, though.
We had our first frost a couple of days ago. Nothing severe but it certainly brings home that summer is over.
I still have 4 hummer feeders up. But know they will be heading south soon. And got baskets of tarps to cover plants to the bitter end. No apple for us this year warm spring and late frost.
Feels different here too. With the sun moving south it is a much 'softer' heat even when it gets into the 90's....which it will be doing this weekend. We are back in the begging for rain mode though. Almost 5 weeks since the last good rain and 1/4th inch two times since then does nothing to quench the thirst of the plants.
It's staying dark so much later in the mornings. I was nearly to College Station yesterday before it got light enough oncoming traffic's lights didn't bother my eyes. It gets dark earlier, too. I think I will go out and see about preparing vegetables for fall planting. dooley
