Has anyone harvested a second crop of bush beans? I didn't have time to pull the row the last time we picked it and now I see a new crop of beans coming on. does any one leave their green beans in to get another harvest? Or is this variety happenstance for a bush bean?

I always get a second crop of beans carolyn. I don't pull my bean plants out until the frost kills them. Sometimes I get a small 3rd crop too.

Yup and you'll get a few tough ones you missed.

    Pick 'em x2.

i concur with all posts above. also, i once worked for a lady, weeding her gardens. in August, i think it was, they used to mow down the bean plants leaving a little stem. they had a hefty second bean crop by fall. it was amazing how quickly the bean plants regrew!

Thanks All, I have mowed them down before, but the 2nd harvest wasn't worth the space and the amount of harvest in the basket. So I was very surprised at the new flush of blooms on them and how decent they were. But then again this year we haven't had the serious infestation of Japanese Beetles that we have had in the past 10 years, so the beans aren't stressed at the defoliation problem that the beetles usually create.

I have always heard of, and have experienced, bush beans getting a second growth. I have picked ours three times. I never pull them out until they begin to die. The pole beans are producing quite well after the beautiful rain we had. I have a second planting which are now beginning to blossom. I hope they produce before frost comes.

I used to get a second and a third 'picking' off bush beans. Just had to pick each plant clean to stimulate new blossoms. This year, I yanked the plants out at harvest and replanted for a later second crop. They are coming along nicely.

FBG, that is what we normally do. Pull and replanting seeds has usually worked better for us. This year we just picked the last crop and left the plants due to a time issue and never really went back down to pull the plants( they are across the road from the house) but they stayed nice and when we went back over for corn I noticed a new crop of flowers coming on. Surprised was I.

If space was limited, I would perhaps pull the first crop out, but since I have room to plant a second crop, I really enjoy harvesting a second and even third picking. Provided the groundhog leaves me enough.
