Today we have a nasty little Nor'easter blowing, it's so grey,
and all the wind and rain make it feel much colder than it really is. :(
They say we should expect this ugliness to persist for several days more. [IMG]

I took these photos a few days ago, when the weather was much, much nicer. 8)

will feast on the berries covering this weeping Yaupon Holly.

I adore the fall-blooming Camellias and Azaleas.

Beautiful trees and shrubs you have in your yard Zuzu. I can't wait until all mine mature and fill in my yard and provide some more shade and privacy.
I want to inquire about your Ginko...it looks like it's still quite young and I wondered if you know if it's male or female? We have a 100+ year Ginko at work and thankfully it's a male as I've heard the blooms/fruit smell like rotten meat. Do you know if you can start them from cuttings?

Zuzu, you cheered me up after a cold and rather non-productive, PTSD filled day. Thank you. Your trees and pics are filled with happiness and inspiration.

Such colour  Who says winter is just around the corner?

Thanks for the splash of badly-needed colour Zuzu.

// Off topic: how's my Gnome Home coming along? Shouldn't you be working on that rather than taking piccies? :snicker:

Thanks for all the fall color ZuZu, everything is beautiful. Love the totem in the first pic, I would like to see a better pic of it, pretty please. I am a totem fanatic and am looking for old lamp part to make one.

Thanks everyone, this area is not naturally rich with fall color,
we planted the Acers and the Ginkgo for just that reason.
Netty ~ Hard to believe, huh, but that little Ginkgo (only about 8 or 10' tall)
is over 20 years old, and I still don't know it's sex. I held it in a pot for the first 7-8 yrs,
then decided "what-the-hey, that's what chainsaws are for", and stuck it in the ground.
It's been a very slow grower, which is fine by me. Maybe all those years in the pot stunted it.

I don't think there are any other Ginkgos in the area, so we may never know if it's male or female.

From what I've heard, Ginkgo is not the easiest to propagate from cuttings.
The most frequently recommended methods are layering and seed.
But it never hurts to try, and this would be the right time of year to try with semi-hard or hardwood cuttings.

I'd use perlite and rooting hormone.
Find a node and make a heel cut,
then follow the instructions on the hormone pkg
and stick your cutting(s) into moist perlite.
Put the whole thing into a plastic bag, or use a cut down soda bottle for a cloche
and in about 3 months, with luck, you might have roots. [IMG]

Frank ~ [IMG] I'm still waiting to hear from the blasted sub-contractors.
    You just couldn't be satisfied with a humble little cottage . . [IMG] . . noooooooooooo . . .
It had to be the Gnomish Palais Royale, well that, my demanding friend, will take a bit longer.

Sharon ~ Thank you, we have a "family" of those that stand in the courtyard,
I know I have some pictures of them, I will find one and post it over in the Stew Junk Forum. [IMG]

Lovely. I want a ginko tree also and someone was telling me also NOT to get a female one. They have one outside their work place and sometimes have to RUN past it cause the smell is so bad. Hard to believe something so beautiful and graceful could stink. :-|
