I am no expert but my guess would be cool mist unless the plants like to be warm from the warm mist, maybe tropicals. I am sure someone here would be able to give you an expert opinion...Good Luck.

During the cold winter month's you can't beat a warm mist humidifier, it will add heat to a room aswell as humidify. Warm air humidifiers are also filter free so you don't have to dish out money everytime the filter needs to be replaced, but you still have to clean the heating element every couple of days though.

I would suggest an ultrasonic cool mist humifier.I have 2.One is in my bedroom near some orchids. One in my plant room near orchids. Also have big drum type that uses big bucket of water daily. We have wood stove & this is very drying. I suffer from dry eyes & that is 1 reason for extra humidity. My orchids sure love the humidity.

We only do a cool mist one. I haven't heard recommendations for a warm mist one in a long time, although I have no idea what the difference is between the two, at the end of the day they still both humidified the room, right? The warm mist isn't going to add any appreciable increase in temperature in the room, the humidity is what makes it feel warmer. Is the warm mist one better for adding vicks products and vaporizing the medicine, the concept behind the it?

I was looking at a warm mist but it used more electricity. Some people complain about a white dust with the ultrasonics but I haven't noticed anything with ours. I probably wouldn't place it near fine furniture.I keep them very clean with vinegar which is a must since no filter.I get them at Walgreens & this store here is good at replacing if they fail before you would expect.
