Has anyone tried Siberian tomatoes? I've done many serches and have found many different conclusions as to if they'll ripen or that they're not legit, to people swearing by them during the cold months. Anyone have any input on them?

i've grown and do grow some Siberian varieties. they taste great and they usuallyproduce much earlier than most varieties. they also withstand the cold and light frosts better than others.

the ones we've grown are Nepal, Thessonaliki, Stupice, DeBoreau (sp?), and many more...will have to check my notebooks...

I'm growing Stupice tomatoes this year. My hope was to get them in early and out early. They were slow to germinate. They looked rather scraggly compared to other varieties. I put them outside in March.

They do seem to tolerate cold better than my Better Bush and Early Girl tomatoes. However, they are not "ahead" of my other tomatoes.

My neighbor and "garden buddy" started some seed in January under those Wall-O-Water tents. They looked much better than my (indoor) plants early on. But now, I'd say our plants have caught up with each other. At our last get together she showed me other varieties she's started that look better. My experience is the same. She tells me that so far the Stupice she started outside don't look any better than the same variety started indoors and planted out in April.

Of course neither of us is harvesting tomatoes yet so I can't comment on the flavor. My neighbor had them last year and liked them very much. My seed came from her 2009 garden.
