I have two Orchid tree's they replaced two huge Oak trees lost to hurricane. I fed them when it was time to feed, gave them systemic for insects suggested by nursery, one looks healthy, one has turned very sickly, lost almost all leaves turning yellow/ brown, now branches are bare except for a few flowers on the ends. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on, hate to lose one, they cost $100 each. Our zone here in SW Fl. is perfect for them, and were doing fine one still is? need your help, please? told hubby is I didn't know better would swear it was poisoned ie weed killer...
Bauhinia are such gorgeous trees, aren't they? Breathtaking when they are in full bloom! I don't have a whole lot of experience with them, but if I remember correctly, they aren't prone to many pests, except maybe borers, and I imagine that the systemic you were advised to use should have handled that problem if that were what caused you tree to languish. Did you plant the tree yourselves or have the nursery install it? If they put it in for you, and it has never really flourished, then I would call them out to have a look at it and maybe ask them to replace it. If the selling nursery is not an option, then I think I would call an arborist out to have a look. Maybe they can tell you what to do to save it, but just as importantly, they might know if it has some disease that could spread to your other tree. Local arborists are a great resource and can sometimes nail down a problem over the phone, because they stay up to date on what's affecting trees in the area. It'd be a shame to lose one, but a real heartbreaker to lose both. I hope you can save your tree, wishing you luck.
According to here..... http://hort.ufl.edu/trees/BAUPURA.pdf They are affected by Pests - borers, caterpillers and mites Diseases - leaf spot and leaf scorch disease
My tree was put in by the nursery for another $50.00 and it was doing fine it's in now about 2 yrs. and it has none of the above mentioned conditions, I know my Florida plants/trees this is why I am so puzzled?? it started out great in the fall but has been going down hill since they both started blooming...
