With all of our rains lately, there's all sorts of "weeds" flourishing. And since it's to wet to mow, some of them are putting on some pretty neat flowers. This is the first time I've seen this one here. Well. I've always seen it's leaves, but never seen it flower. It reminded me of an Obedient Plant that I tried transplanting last year. http://www.gardenstew.com/viewtopic.php?t=23064&highlight=obedient+plant But it is so different. It isn't tall. The leaves are completely different. Is it in the Obedient family? unknown - obedient perhaps ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) unknown - Obedient perhaps2 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) unknown - Obedient perhaps-leaves ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
The foliage doesn't convince me that this is a Salvia. My first thought after seeing the bloom was Penstemon, but the foliage is isn't right for that either. The foliage is almost weed-like.
My first thought was the indian tobacco that i found in my flower bed last year and nourished all summer to see what it did...and the flower is very similar, but the foliage totally different. It resembles many a weed flower, though, the foliage not so much so. Sorry, I wish I could help more.
Cheryl, I think it might be a Texas Native called Lyreleaf Sage - Salvia lyrata http://www.wildflower.org/gallery/resul ... mage=24443 Possibly one that has been cross pollinated in the wild.
I think you're right Toni. They are all over the yard. I'm going to move a couple into a "protected" bed. Who knew that darn weed could have such pretty flowers! Makes me want to NOT mow at all. Thanks everybody.
