The Dutch won the speed skating event at the winter Olympics. That must have Sjoerd properly "chuffed"! Max Verstoppen won the Formula One champion driver award, and now Schouten won the speed skating. There's just no stopping these folks from the Netherlands!
Minuscule country with large accomplishments. I have been watching our skaters. We have won some things and lost others. Still, the best ought to win and I am happy with that. We do not watch a lot of sports, but speed skating—well, that’s in the DNA. We are so small, I am sort of surprised that you noticed our accomplishments. Ha ha the Irene Schouten is from a very small West-Friesian village a few minutes from us. Her family have a tulip bulb business. Tomorrow more speed skating . The mannen go for the 5000m. Thank you for congrats. That was so nice.
I liked to watch the ice skating but the time isn't right for me and only can see the highlights on iPlayer.
On the subject of speed skating, which I was watching yesterday on Eurosport, this young Italian woman called Francesca won the silver medal in the 2000mtrs. She shares the same surname as her great aunt.
I'm watching the speed skating on Eurosport. Unfortunately, I'm having to suffer the commentary by Carlton Kirby, who can't complete a sentence of even six words, without at least one "umm" and an "err" in it. A clear indication of his inability to engage his brain before opening his mouth. He also thinks his lame jokes are funny. He's just as bad on track cycling.
Commentators can make or break my viewing pleasure. I'm not sure who Carlton Kirby is, but yesterday we had a commentator on the ladies figure skating that was horrible. I heard my daughter, who is usually very quiet, yelling at the TV "shut up so I can watch the program!" On a happier note, 2 of our Canadian speed skaters have won medals!
Go Netherlands! I don't watch the Olympics but I'm glad the old European skating nation is doing well.
Netty— yea Canada! Droopy— Thanks. I am enjoying the events so much, even if we do not win, it is just great seeing skaters who do do well.
