There's this small tree along our fenceline at the back of the pasture. I'm in SE Texas zone 9a.
I rarely go out that far, but have been noticing it lately since it is in bloom and went to take a closer look.
It's probably about 7 foot tall. I can almost promise that my folks didn't plant it.
The pretty little blooms remind me of paint brushes. And the leaves are just about the same size as the blooms.
I don't recall seeing it in bloom during the Spring or Summer (but honestly, I haven't paid that much attention to it).
    It survives on it's own.
Hubby said he thought it was a Grancy Greybeard. But the blooms just don't look the same to me.
So, after looking online for an hour, I finally decided to ask here in the hopes that someone can point me in the right direction.

There is one up on the corner by our house. I don't know what it is either. It's pretty though. I don't know enough about Texas plants but I don't think I've seen it any where else. I'm sorry I can't help you.

Dooley... my brother's in-laws live in Bryan... he said he sees them up there too. Hopefully someone will steer us in the right direction to IDing it. :stew2:

Coud it perhaps be a CHIONANTHUS virginicus/
    American fringe tree?

thanks for the suggestion Eileen... but I don't think that's it.
On my commute home from work this evening... I noticed LOTS of these growing along fence lines. I think I'll try a different approach on another online search. Instead of using "tree" I'm gonna try "bush" and "wild". Wish me luck!

That's interesting, sure is a pretty bloom.

And guess what! The plant is in our data base but has no info or photos, :stew1: :stew2:

I have lived in Texas all my life and have never seen that bush/tree. But I want one.

After reading that,, don`t think I want one after all. I have enough invasive stuff to contend with.

Mart... they sure are pretty. I was thinking of trying to start one closer to the house. But I think I'll just admire them from afar.

Wonder if the females alone,, without a male tree,, would be invasive as well? Maybe a large pot and treat it as a shrub? Male trees are not as pretty as the frilly female ones.
