Ran down stairs to see what was matter.Had new gas space heater installed 2 weeks ago .First they didn't pack glass panels for front. Then they put them in Friday.Fired it up-one cracked must have cold in truck. It set alarm off then. Had to open windows. But they said just oil on parts from factory.Running it right now. Got battery out of alarm-close by.

That must have been so frightening--but what a relief to find it was nothing dire.
Please replace the battery in the smoke alarm--you're too valuable to us here on the Stew and we don't want to lose you!

Yes, it's good that everyone is safe and the alarm was for oiled parts in the new space heater but please put the battery back in. We don't want you to be a headline in the local newspaper.

KK, the oil does make the alarms go off. When we put the wood burner in, the first time we burned in it was smelled awful and setting off the alarms. Hope it is done now. Stay safe.

Smoke alarm in past goes off when I cook. Had it go off once from chimney. Not a fire in it. Guy who installed the wood burner.Didn't put pipe far enough in chimney. He got told off proper. I have 2 other alarms. But I put battery back in-just changed it .Alarmed scared dog even more then us.She shook for an hour.

We did the same thing when we fired up our pellet stove many years ago. It is frightening when it happens and could mane your mind race around with terrible thoughts.

Glad is was something silly like that and not something bad.

Good thinking KKid. We all should be so prepared. I don't have either and I should make more effort to make sure they are in the house and in place, but I would probably forget where I put them, even if they were in plain sight  .

When the battery on our alarm is getting low, the alarm goes off to warn us. Why is that always in the middle of the night?

I change mine twice a year. When time changes. We also have ladder by garage. So if had fire could go out window and down stairs.Got to call customer. All her alarms was on kitchen island. All hard wired.See if she wants me to pick up battery type for her.And she's a chain smoker. Has burn marks in carpet by chair and bed. Been after her to quit.
