The photos below were taken this January, but I hope you don't mind. We had such fun, and I'm hoping somebody will tell me what this activity is called in English. This is me with Gabriella, whose patience is sorely tried because we had to stop and wait for the skier to get up again every second minute: The children from left to right, my middle girl, my grand-daughter and my youngest: My oldest girl is leading the pony. I badly needed a breather! Snow and short legs makes for very heavy breathing.
Looks like they had a great time! And the horse is so pretty! Can't say as that I'd know exactly what to call it. We don't have a formal name for it that I know of, I'd say (horse drawn) skiing and sledding. What do you call it?
Isn't snow quite magical. In fact I want to be a kid again playing in the snow I have no idea what this is called Droopy, maybe you should name it before someone else does! Great photos.
Ohhh wow!! these are awesome pics, droopy. it sure looks like all of you had a great time, an your horse is just beautiful. don't just love winter when the kids are all rosey cheeks, an excited. as far as what its called in english,, i have no idea, but i would call it cheat skiing..lol. the horse does all the work an the skier just goes along for the fun.......
Thanks for nice comments everyone. We're very fond of Gabriella, because she can both be ridden and driven, and mostly has a pleasant temper too. We call it snørekjøring, which will be something like rope-driving, but that is not a correct description. Maybe rope-skiing? I like Biita's suggestion too.
Snow is just magical It looks like major fun. I will have to put cheat-skiing on my list of things to do before I am too old. First I will have to get to the snow though.
What wonderful pictures Droopy. That looks like it would be so much fun. Gabrielle is a beautiful horse. How many horses do you have?
At the moment we have three, but the foal is leaving as soon as she's weaned. Truls is a Danish mix, Gabriella is a Welsh Mountain, and the foal has a Norwegian mix daddy.
Sure looks like "Fun" to me, Droopy. I'll bet my 9 yr old would enjoy that. Such a pretty white horse too.
Thank you Petunia. "White" is no longer a good description. She's nursing so I can't put clothes on her, and she's now shades of yellow and grey.
Glenda, one quickly learns how to dress to keep both warm and movable. I can't believe only Scandinavians do that with horses and skis. It's good fun and healthy exercise too.
Yep! That's what I'd call it too!! Weather wimp that I am, however, I'll have to admit that it's the sort of "Fun" that I'm happiest to see in photographs . . . (other people's photographs . . . . . . the photographs of other-people-who-live-at-some-significant-distance-from-me).
Well, Zuzu, I'll share more winter fun as the winter deepens. I don't like it much, but the girls do, so out I go.
