This is a Sky Rocket Juniper. I've never had this problem before. Should I go out now and knock the snow off, pull the branches back in place and tightly wrap it in twine or what?
Are you expecting more snow? You probably should shake or sweep as much of the snow off as you can and tie it up in case your winter isn't over. Oops, I just read that removing ice already coating the tree can cause serious damage to it but that looks like all snow so a gentle removal should be okay.
Thanks, Toni. I'll check for ice first but I don't think there is because today is the first I saw it.
I was just going to say that if that juniper is dear to you, remove the snow unless there is ice...then you may need look for a way to support the branches. That is a lot of snow---shocking!
The snow is still coming down even heavier than before, however, the temperature is up to 43F (6.1C) so the depth is staying about the same. Anyhow, I did get my muklucs, gloves, and warm coat on and carefully waded out to the juniper and wrapped it with twine. It looks pretty good, for now. The white specks are snow.
I can't believe this storm! Even though the temperature is just a little colder, it is still above freezing but the snow is falling so fast that there is at least an additional 2 inches of snow on the ground since I posted the pictures above. It's suppose to snow tonight and tomorrow also. I'm sure glad that we don't have to drive in this! The birds are really busy at the feeder.
