Here are a few more pic's of the snow storm that blew threw here yesterday. In the first pic it is about 4:00pm Wed. and still blowing. The second pic I just took and it's 2:00pm here. You can see the snow still covering the ground. But if you look off to the right of the pic you can see a wood lattice trellis with something growing up it. This is what I found. I was so and to see that my Sweet Peas had survived the storm and cold weather. So now I guess I officially have Snow Peas. Just had to share this wonderful surprise. Nov. snow storm. 2011 ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) Next day snow on the ground. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) Snow Peas? Nov. 2011 ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) My Hardy little Sweet (snow) Peas. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) I'm going to be sad to see them finally succumb to the colder temps we are suppose to be having for the next couple of nights. They were planted late and my hubby said that they wouldn't amount to much. Now look at them. I think they are having the last laugh on him.
Now that's what I call and unexpected but very welcome sight. :-D The squirrels dug up my sweet peas and ate them so they didn't come to anything this year. I'm so glad yours have survived the snow storm and are putting on such a beautiful show for you Tooty. They are so pretty that I'll keep my fingers crossed they continue to bloom for as long as possible.
You may very well have the northland's last hurrah for veggies this season. If not they still a pretty sight. Perhaps next year nature may be kinder to your sweet peas. Jerry
Oh, those are pretty. I tried to grow some, but they must not like it here. I couldn't get any of them to grow to the point of more than 1 or 2 flowers. What did you do to get them that size?
Look at those! They're hardier than we think, the pretty little rascals. You must have done something very right to make them thrive.
Carolyn & Droopy. The only thing I did for them was to put some horse poop under the mulch I add around them. At first I didn't think they were going to amount to much. I kept watering them and speaking encouraging words to them. Veola they are still blooming and they smell pretty also. I am so blessed. Thanks.
You sure are blessed. next year I will try the poop method. even if it doesn't work, I'll at least have tried.
Yup. Try, try again. One thing I should have done was soak the seeds over night before I planted them. Next year I'll for sure do that so the germinate sooner. Looking forward to seeing your Sweet Peas next year.
