Some of you here in the states have probably seen the reports on Snow Rollers here in Ohio. A lot of them are right here near Marysville, Ohio. Fox News had a report on them and so did CBS news. They are fairly rare. They happen when the texture of the snow, fresh and damp, is blown by the wind and the snow rolls up much like when you build a snow man. Some of them look like small snow balls and other are about 12 inches long and up to 8 inches tall and have a hole in the middle. We went in town this afternoon for groceries and on the way home I saw maybe a 1/2 dozen of then in the fields at the golf course about a 1/2 mile from my house. If you do a search on snow rollers you can probably find out more about them.

Yes, I know what you mean about snow rollers. We had them in our fields the other day. I think that is the first time I had ever seen anything like that here in New Brunswick. I wanted to get out and take pictures but I thought the wind might blow me away!

I know the one that Fox News showed in their pic, was taken here in Marysville. It had Marysville Ohio up in the corner!

Gosh isn't it amazing what the wind can do with snow?!! I've never seen anything like those snow rollers before.

I think I have seen them before, but I didn't realize it was some phenomenon that was unusual. I will have to keep an eye out in the future.

As we were going down the road on Monday my DH wondered what all those "snowballs" were all over the fields. I'll try to take a few pictures tomorrow. Every time I go out the door I forget to take my camera with me. I don't have any in my front/back yard (because we are too sheltered from the wind is my guess), but they are all over the neighbors yards and fields.
