Had a look around a local pond for dragonflies. There were lots of them too. Managed a few images, here are 4 of those that we saw. Dragonflies always intrigue me Kildale so these great photos put a smile on my face. Can I ask how far back you are from the subject when you take the photo?
I have been watching dragonflies lately. They are nice. I was sitting in my convertible one day and a dragonfly landed in the car antenna. I tried to get my phone camera but didn't make it. He left. For a minute it was like having one of those smile face balls stuck on the antennas. I thought of my Stewbie friend while I was watching that lil guy. Wish I had that picture. Kildale would have thought the picture was horrible but the pose was cute. LOL. Thanks for exposing me to such beautiful things that I would otherwise never given a second thought about.
How I wish I could show you photographs of the dragonflies and damselflies that visit my pond. Sadly, despite plenty of sunshine, I haven't seen any at all this year. I'm so glad you've managed to take so many different species Kildale. I'd be happy with just one.
Kildale, Do you just lay there for hours and hours and hours, waiting for a being to come along for you to snap.....his picture?
Thank you for the messages. Frank, I try to get within a few inches. Take them as soon as poss and then try to get closer, taking shots as I do. They usually come back to the same twig if they take off. It is the other dragonflies that chase them or they chase, that they leave.
I did take a couple of damselflies as well but they are not very good images. I'm going back there tomorrow to see what else I can find. This is a damselfly, showing that they do not all fold their wings back over their body, its a Northern Spreadwing. Not a great shot but they are very small. I always thought I'd seen dragonflies but evidently I was seeing the damselflies :-D Learn something every day!!
What do you mean "not a great shot"? I can see the veins in the wings, and what adorable blue eyes! Your dragonflies are lovely too.
