Note: our good camera, the Canon Rebel XT is busted. Something about some mechanism in the upper portion of the camera, which actually causes the shutter to open, doesn't work and I cannot take pictures with it. These are all taken with a cheap Nikon I got for $100 on close-out. I bought the Nikon last year, when we had to send this darn Canon in to repair the upper mechanism the first time! Best Buy has made us a deal, though, they'll take the Canon back & give us credit, then we use the credit to buy a new Canon. I hope it works! Yesterday, my daughter gathered the apricots that had fallen from one of our trees. She washed them & was very proud of her harvest. A neighbor made preserves out of them & we're taking some of the preserves to Florida on our vacation in a few days. Here's my front yard looking Northeast: (that is not my boat!) A little closer view: (Note the obligatory hose in the picture!) Much closer: Blue plumbago (Leadwort) Lily of the Nile - on the newly-finished patio A mess of Rudbeckia under the apricot tree Other Rudbeckias here & there coneflower Vinca Shasta daisy - Snow Princess w/ leadwort
You've got a lovely place. Those blues, yellows, oranges and whites really shine! I must confess the "flower" on the first photos is my favourite. I'm so glad she enjoys harvesting, bodes well for the future.
What a nice yard and flowers. They all appear to be doing so well too. It looks like one of the neighbour's dogs visited your lovely green buxus(?) on the 4th piccy. Darn it. I particularly like the Rudbeckias. They look very happy.
dog Honestly, I have no idea what happened to that boxwood. I've been meaning to cut it out, but haven't gotten to it yet. My daughter noticed, it looks like a smile, so she suggested, we make other dead spots to make a bona fide face out of it! I've got to trim that thing anyway, as it's starting to push on my Rudbeckias.
And what's sort of tragic about the harvest thus far: I don't like apricots. I never have. I like peaches, but not apricots. Another thing I don't like: strawberries. My wife & daughter think that's weird.
No, not weird. Weird is far too weak a word to use. I could probably eat myself silly on both those things given half a chance.
Well, the fruit I would eat myself silly on is cantaloupe, apples & grapes. I also love blueberries, but our soil is too alkaline for them.
AH-HA I see you managed to get flower pots on that new patio after all. :-D How did you manage that then when your wife told you no way? I think you now need a set of garden furniture out there too. Just tell your wife it's so that she can sit outside and relax in the sun. :-D I agree with you btw about apricots - I don't like them either - but you did manage to get a good crop didn't you? Thanks for the photographs of your home and garden.
Your borders are artistically arranged. I love the curves rather than straight edges. The little one sparkles too. Gardengater
Thanks! My parents always seemed to do curvy garden borders when I was growing up & I liked the amorphous shapes.
The yard and patio are looking great WT. Of course your daughter is a beauty as well. I have to say I love apricots and strawberries and I agree with them...it is weird. (just kidding) LOL! I'll take the cantaloupe, grapes and blueberries anytime too! Apples make my teeth hurt, I know that's weird. I have sensitive teeth what can I say. LOL! Thanks for sharing.
