In 1910 during the era of industrial magnates Richard T. Crane Jr. purchased 2100 acres of land in Ipswich, Massachusetts overlooking the Massachusetts Bay. There in 1928 he built a grand 59 room mansion. Today, the Stewart-style home is owned by the Trustees of Reservations and is open to the public. It is used for many events throughout the year. Pictures were permitted around the estate, on the first floor(except the library) and on the second floor(only out the windows) The upper rooms reflect the period of the '20's and '30's containing the 'modern conveniences' of the time. I don't think I was ever there as a maid or cook or chimney sweep...etc. I think if I had been I would know how to do it more efficiently than I do now...So as I look as the size of the front of the house, that is way too much vacuuming and dusting for me. Nice of you to share and make me appreciate my much smaller home, Jerry. Thanks!
As a retired estate gardener, I've experienced large homes. Even with having the money, there is too much maintenance and too many hassles. I'll take my small home with mature trees over any goliath residence.
