At least until the weather comes to us from the North Pole instead of H*** I will be learning a new craft. I promise to use it as a diversion to keep from whining about the weather so much. I have an Ashford Traditional spinning wheel that I bought about 4 years ago and last weekend while Randy and I were on our mini-vacation I found a Flax Wheel and a Tall Wheel at an antique store that looked interesting. I did some research on them this week, we are going back to the store tomorrow and if they are still available, in good shape and have their parts I am going to put them on layaway. I have wool and alpaca fibers that I haven't spun yet, just haven't mastered the first spinning wheel yet but since I can't garden I will be concentrating on that instead. Flax is the fiber that is spun and woven into linen fabric. So if the Flax wheel is usable, I know of a couple of online shops that sell flax fiber and I have a small table top loom I can also start weaving again. Any one else do any spinning or weaving?
I have not, but I know a lady who does. she belongs ti a guild and they have a shop in Prescott. She does spinning and weaving at the County Sharlott Hall Museum when they have fairs there. Another one that I knew at the Black Canyon city library did spinning and weaving and also quilting. My ex daughter-in-law wanted to do spinning. She knits a lot. But life sort of got in the way. I did learn to spin when I was a volunteer at New Salem many years ago but I am sorry to say I don't remember how. Wannabe
It so sad to hear that you can't do the thing you love to the extent that you want Do you do much indoor gardening Toni?
I used to have lots of indoor plants but the winter we moved into this house they all got left in the back of my car too long and froze. Since I was pg with Amanda I just didn't bother to replace them. Guess I could get more now. There are still garden plans for next year running around in the back of my mind. They are there in case they are needed and doable next spring but I don't let them come to the front of my mind where they would hurt too much.
We just got back from checking out the two spinning wheels but didn't put them on layaway. Far too many parts missing and damaged parts on them to spend that kind of money on. So this next week I will get the wheel I already have out and master it. I will also put the loom together, warp it and start playing with fabric strips for rag rugs and placemats. It's not gardening but it will have to do until h*** freezes over and I can go outside again.
I don't but I have a friend who raises llamas and spins from their wool. She has two spinning wheels and does demonstrations for kids at the schools of how spinning is done.
