Ok, I know I really should follow rules, but sometimes that place (Home Depot) just gets so boring I could puke. A couple times I would take a book to the outside garden register (Im not the only one who did it!) and read when there were no customers. 3 times I got caught by one of the managers. 2 weeks ago, I was working on jewelry out there, because there were so few customers it was ridiculous. The garden manager saw me, and turned me into the cashier manager (Shelley), and she had me write out a statement and sent it to HR.

Anyway, yesterday after my 1st break, Shelley took me into her office. She and the store manager Matt told me that HR decided to "terminate my employment". They made me sign a paper stating that, and she took me to clean out my locker. Then I left.

Today, my bf goes into work, and a few hours later, texts me saying "Word is that the attitude around here is F--- this place, they fired Jen! 3 cashiers didnt show up, including Allyson (the front end supervisor)!"

HAHAHAHA! Love my peeps! Most of the people from there I have friended on facebook are saying pretty much the same thing, they cant believe the managers were that uptight about it...
Oh well, I hated that place anyway. I have 2 other jobs lined up (cant afford to do one or the other, so Im gonna do both!) already :)

Sorry to hear you got fired Jen. :( It would have been better if they'd asked you to resign as you wouldn't have a blot against your name that way. I think it's ridiculous that they let you go for such a trivial matter. However, I'm glad you have a couple of other jobs in the pipeline. It's also great to hear that your friends are sticking by you.

Told not to take that BS from him. Then he turned on me. When I asked where main manager was he was  So I could cancel my order and tell them why :D got windows at Lowes and cheaper price same window

I think HD handled it wrong, and that they should have given you a final warning before firing you.
However, I have a different take on the situation--as a former "manager" type. You were being paid to work for a company, not read a book or make jewelry. If you were bored, there might have been a clean-up job, straightening of shelves, making sure everything was as it should be. I always kept an eye on employees who found things that needed doing, and made sure they were properly rewarded.
I'm glad you have new jobs lined up. I hope they won't be boring and that you'll find ways to keep your interest on your work.

I did do work, but there was only so much I could do. The FES didnt want us going more than 10 feet from the register, and management also said I had to stay close. BUT, they also wanted me to water, sweep, etc. which would take me way more than 10 ft away. They cant have it both ways!

What's the old saying... "one door closes and another opens?" Well, in your case two have opened! Good luck!

One of the places Ill be going is called Garden Ridge. Its a decor store. The manager called it "a working warehouse" which means their expectations are a bit lower. We dont have to push credit or surverys on customers, we dont have to jump at their every whim, everyone (about 18 people when fully staffed lol) knows how to run register and do returns, even the custodian! They dont make their cashiers stand in one spot for 8 hours, they switch people out so they dont get stale, sending cashiers to the floor and the floor people to the register. The manager who did my interview said that she was in retail for many years before going to G Ridge and she LOVES it there! Sounds good to me :)

Sorry you lost your job, but I do have to agree with Jane on this in the respect that I was ALWAYS to at least look busy for the person/company who employs you. "Never look like you are doing nothing and never let them catch you with your hands in your pockets unless you are getting out a tool", was literally beat into our heads while in school. Maybe the manager was also failing on his part in keeping a better eye on the whole dept and making sure there was ample supply of "busy" work, if nothing else, for everybody. Plants can always be moved closer to the register if there are an abundance that need attention. And that is something that I do notice in the box stores in the regard of proper plant care. They are always in need of water around here. It makes me sad to see them when I know how much work goes into getting them to the point of sale.

It sounds like you really needed the incentive to try something new and challenging... I understand the boredom issue. Good luck on the new job.

Thanks all :) Both Meijer and Garden Ridge are doing background checks, so Im just chillin waiting for them to get back with me. Meanwhile Im enjoying not having to go to work :D

I got to go to a halloween party last night. My Front End Supervisor (FES) was having it, and while I was working for HD, I couldnt be invited, but once I got let go, there were no rules against it, so she said I could go :) I dressed up as a unicorn :D Ill get pics when she posts em on facebook

I always like to think that everything happens for a reason, and looking back on what's happened in my life; it makes sense.

Hopefully it will work out this way for you too :-D
