I am very sorry to hear about the tragedy in Norway. I hope that none of our Norwegian posters were touched by this sad event. Fingers crossed for more survivors.

Yesterday was a weird day in our little town. Lovely weather, and the block of flats that were burning. It's still burning. The people living around the site were evacuated due to explosion risk. This morning five people are still missing. It feels so unreal.

Fire is always so devastating and can rip through a building in no time at all. I hope they find the five people safe and well.

Thank you all. I'm sorry to say that all three people I know are missing. The fire was the worst, but the whole thing started with a big chunk of mountain falling down and moving the whole structure 7 meters out into the street. Ground floor and first floor collapsed. Then the fires started. It's still burning.

    That is so tragic.
This all happened without any warning signs? Gosh does a person even get a warning when such a tragedy strikes?

You can see the big chunk of mountain that caused this disaster here:

I tried to link to our local newspaper Sunnmørsposten, but only got the front page.

The only warning, if one can call it that, is that the mountain side has leaked more water than usual of late. Then the frosts came.

Wow - that picture really says it. This is so sad! I am very, very sorry that your friends are among the missing, how horrifying and surreal this all must be.

Oh my, what a terrible sight. I hope the residents of the other buildings can find new homes before the same thing happens to them.

Thank you for the link, Toni. It didn't work for me first time I tried it, but I got to see it later. There are 450 evacuees because of the propane gas tank that's burning and might explode, and they worry that the block will move more or topple over.

Geologists went over the site before the house was built, and every precaution was taken, so this is just one of those unpredictable things. It doesn't make it less terrible, of course.

I just hope that more tragedy can be avoided. That is frightening.
