So the electrician installed the wiring, and the gas guys will come soon, but now I have to deal with the rainproof box in which I want my new generator to be stored. Sound deadening materials like rock wool come to mind as it is fire resistant past 2000 degrees. What other material might I choose to use?

DM— are you getting a generator with anti-noise technology?

This machine is larger than my old one but much quieter. It is a 20 hp 13Kw peak and has a large muffler but I am not aware of any specific noise cancellation in the design other than the larger muffler.

I had built this generator myself around 25 years ago myself. It's a 30 kilowatt 3 phase 1,500 RPM Stamford, connected to a Toyota Hilux 3Y 2,000 CC petrol engine. It ran on both petrol (gasoline) and natural gas.

It hasn't been used since 15 years. And since I'm now on renewable free solar power, I don't really need it - However I do plan on getting it in working order again, (and have it installed just as a backup).

Anyway, when it comes noise suppression. Just install the biggest diesel engine truck muffler that you can get your hands on. It will become quieter then a 4x4 SUV running in your driveway. I used a 4,400 CC bus engine's muffler on it, and had zero complaints about it's noise from anyone.

Well the house electrical is wired in and the propane line is installed. Glad I bought a decent digging shovel for the next part.
