Here are a couple of flower beetles. They are rather neat. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
Rather neat they may be but if they, or their larvae, starting munching on my plants they would be gone to beetle heaven without delay.
I'm fascinated by the beetles' antenna. I like it when I can watch close-up photos, because there's so much detail I'd otherwise miss.
They are strange aren't they. I like to see everything up close, why put unwanted stuff in the picture.
I use Olympus cameras, the latest two are SP-570 UZ, which has a super macro setting and a 20 times zoom. The other is SP-550 with macro and 18 times zoom. I also have a Fuji FinePix S9000, this is a bigger camera and doesn't come out of the camera bag now. My other digital is a Konica-Minolta, a neat easy to use camera but doesn't have the big zooms that I like for the birds so it stays in the bag also, Those are the 4 digitals that I have.
I don't go by the names, I just go for the one that does what I need. Many people only take family snapshots but they hear of those big outfits or the dealer tells them about them and that is what they end up with for 30 pictures a year. I remember when the 35 SLR cameras were out, everyone was buying those ultra violet filters to protect the lens, a $5 piece of glass to go in front of a $1000 lens, where is the logic in that.
Beautiful pictures, well done! Even if they are a little creepy too lol. Beetles aren't up there on my favorites list.
Welcome to the forum. Lived in Calgary for a few years, my son is still there. Thank you for the post.
This is a shot of the second beetle getting ready to fly, has its wing covers open. Ready to take off. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
