I bought some very sick looking cherry tomato plants from the hardware store. (last of the lot I think) and I'm not sure what to do with them now. They have lots of blossoms but they just fall off, bottom leaves are turning brown shriveling up and falling off - as are the stems. What should I do first? Any help would be appreciated.

I would pull off all the bottom leaves that are turning brown and then thin out the leaves on the rest of the plant...Next start giving it some miracle grow. I would give it miracle grow every other week and then get some compost at the garden center and put that in between miracle grow treatments.

Did you plant them deep? That will help. Just don't plant the root ball but several inches up the main shaft as well. The more of the plant that is in the ground or pot will create more roots.

It is a bit late for the plants but you might be able to pull something off. they have been at the garden center for a long time and they don't give them fertilizer treatments. they only water them. So give them some good good and tender care and you will see. Only time will tell.

    Good luck.

    great!

thank you so much - I haven't planted them yet. Just got them yesterday. I have a place in my front yard that gets 50/50 sun/shade that I was thinking about putting them. Or I was going to transplant in bigger pots so I can bring them in as the weather cools off - or should I put them in my sunny spot that I have chosen for my garden spot.

ANything you want to do in your region should be fine...Maybe put 1 in a pot so that you can bring that one in and see how the others do. Make sure your plant them deep and stake them up for support. It seems to me that they need some tender loving care. good luck!

Also I have a very tall cherry tom plant right now and they are a bit spindly. they seem to like to vine out more then get really thick trunks.

This bit sounds a bit worrying to me. What do you mean...the stem is shrivilling and turning brown?
Could you take a macro foto of this?
If you can please try and include the leaves as well.
I have some ideas on this, but I'd like to see the fotos if possible.
