A very nice set of garden blooms, Philip! The Lathyrus look awfully good to me, since I did not have room to plant any this year. I especially like them and usually MAKE room, but it was not possible this year. I really looking at yours and I know the fragrance of some that you have shown. The Eschscholzia does not bloom here at this time of year typically, so it was good to see those as well. Of course the other plants are nice to see as well, it is just that I "have something" with Lathyrus. I thank you for this lovely display today.
Your pea blooms are exquisite! Ours are still growing, not a bloom in sight yet. Your other flowers are looking good too, but wow! those Lathyrus...
'Tis not fair - you have all those beautifully coloured sweet peas and mine all died. The weather, squirrels and neighbours cats did mine in. :'( At least I get to see all of yours and I have to admit that I'm just a tad jealous. Those first two are absolutely gorgeous.
Did you start your sweet peas or plant seeds? I started seeds WAY back in march and planted them out fairly early, seeing how they are cool weather plants, but they are still only about 1-2 ft tall so far. few blooms,also. So did you do anything to them to get them to grow? All your pics are beautiful, too. And I agree with Cheryl, that poppy photo is tops!

Hi Sjoerd, i love the scent those Lathyrus have,..and as i acquired some free link fencing,.. i cut it down to two sections approx six foot each and placed them either side of a garden seat,..then planted the Lathyrus there,..they are to fill the area while two rose bushes grow big enough to cover the same areas. The Eschscholzia seeds were sent from a friend in California,..someone said once you have them you will always have them,..they grow easily from self seeding. ----------------------------------------------------- Hi Droopy, you are not the only one remarking that Lathyrus are small or slow to grow or have not flowered as yet,..and this comes from this side of the pond as well,..i guess we had a lot of rain but not a lot of long sunny days,..mine are at 6 foot high but not completely covered in blooms,..but give it a week and all will be well. ----------------------------------------------------- Hi Eileen, i have come to the conclusion that my cats and kittens use the neighbors gardens to do what a cat does best,..but not my immediate neighbors,..the Courthouse and Tax Office have vast gardens,..which are well fertilized,lol. ----------------------------------------------------- Hi Carolyn, i started off my Lathyrus seeds in the hot house,..back in April,..when they were approx 5 inches tall i planted them out,..none died back,..but they stopped growing at about 3 foot for some time then suddenly they are taller than i am,..i did give them a liquid feed,..and as i mentioned above they are over 6 ft now. ----------------------------------------------------- Hi Netty, i agree that first one is a Royal Blue,..i think!,..for some reason i am bad a naming colours,..oh i can see them fine,..just putting a name to the actual colour?. ----------------------------------------------------- Hi Gardengirl, my luck was in this year,..those Verbascium appeared,..all eight of them in two locations,..so they were volunteers,..from heaven knows where,..on the last count they were at 7ft 7 inches,..sorry to hear yours are not giving a show. ----------------------------------------------------- ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) Sedum in flower. When are you going to have time to go exploring the islands when you have to tend to the estate and your own gardens? Maybe you need an assistant?
Hi Cheryl, yes i need more than two hands,..as it is i WAS wondering how i can divide my time between my own garden,..the estate garden plus the veg garden come spring,..AND the boating,..i can manage it on paper,..but i know what i am like growing veg,..i am like a dog with a bone,..if i can restrain myself,..restrict myself to just a small plot,..i think i tried this before, ,..time will tell.
