Sprouts! Cosmos, 4 o'clocks - and now Hyacinths & Cardoo Last week, I set up a seed starter area. And after just one week, I'm thrilled to see some growth. The Cosmos sprouted in about 3-4 days. And the 4 o'clocks took 6 days. 4 O'clocks - sprouts ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Cosmos - sprouts ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) I also planted some Hyacinth Bean Vine, Cardoon, Dinner Plate Hibiscus, Pride of Barbados and Ballerina Angel Trumpets. Hopefully they, too, will sprout soon.
They all look very good. Our temperatures are so up and down this month I am going to wait until January and see about starting some then.
Did you see the set-up I made (in the "Seeds" forum)? http://www.gardenstew.com/about20737.html It has heat and lights. Plus it's in a room that's heated... so the temperature doesn't change too much. I just have to keep being patient and wait on the others.
I totally missed that topic. Good job, that looks great. I don't have any space inside where I could set up something like that. I do have a bloom house out back where I started some a couple of years ago. The sun keeps it warm and I have a light out there but not sure even that will keep seedlings warm enough on really cold nights.
I stole some space in the "living room"... a room which no one really did any living! It's become a memorial/storage area. There's my sister's old piano, my parent's cedar chest, some old tables, and tons of photos, etc. The door (leading outside) rarely gets used, so I didn't see any harm in blocking it for a few months. I sure hope everything sprouts and I can keep them healthy until planting time.
And as of day Nine... the Hayacinth Bean Vine and Cardoons have sprouts! Hyacinth & Cardoon -sprouts ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Now the only thing I'm waiting on are the Dinner Plate Hibiscus, Pride of Barbados and Ballerina Angel Trumpets.
