My American Legion Post is having their Spring Fish Fry on Sat. Beer battered, deep fried Alskan Pollock, baked beans and cole slaw. I used to make the cole slaw by hand, but found a place where we can buy the exact same kind of slaw. We paid $45. for 40 lbs. of slaw. It used to cost us $80 just for the ingredients, plus the labor. All you can eat for $9. per person. I am going to be stuffed Sat. night!

I was just trying to figure out where to get fish for lunch on my drive into work. Too bad I can't just hop over the American Legion Hall and have some with you!

Wow, Captain, that sounds good! Our church is having its fish fry this Sunday evening. One of the members is a champion fisherman, and provides the fish (bass) and fries it. Everyone else brings a dish to pass, or a dessert, and then we ALL stuff ourselves! It starts at 6 p.m., and about 6:30, when everyone has arrived and the dishes are all out, two of our members take plates to shut-ins. When they get back, we all eat, and then play bingo. The prizes are brought by the members, and there is quite a lot of teasing going on about who gets Mary's dill pickles (famous for flavor in the county).
It's a fun evening for those of us who are easily entertained!

Had some good fish, but the turnout was light. We had rain, wind and really cool temps. So that kept people in their homes. But the food was great! I ate enough fish for 2 people! :)

Capt... because of your original post... I've been craving fish. I went out and some for lunch on Friday. And then we had fish & shrimp for supper last night!
Sorry the turnout wasn't what you'd hoped for... but at least the food was good!

The fish frys that we have are one of our major money makers. We usually have them in the fall, winter and spring. We usually make about $1000 per event. But this one we had to raise our price. They used to be $7 per person then a year ago it became $8 and this one, we had to go to $9 per person. The cost of the fish has gone up drastically, mostly because of fuel charges for shipping. But on the other hand, it is all you can eat. Normally we sell any leftover uncooked fish to our members at cost, or save it for a meal at one of our members.
