Hi, my new lilies (Netty's Pride and Patricia's Pride) are doing well and are between 12-18". One of them is budding already. My question is, should I be staking these? I'm sure I've read that I should but wondered if anyone knew for sure, please? The tallest one is leaning slightly, hence the question. Thank You.
Hello there, Sharon, nice to see you. I give some of my lilies support, but far from all. The very tall ones are given a solid bamboo pole each, and I tie the stem with a special green, broad "twine" in several places to give maximum support. The lily clumps that tend to lean get a wire support or two, the ones that look like a huge unstapled paper staple. I don't know what they're called in English.
I've got serverl lilies and have never had to stake any of them. They always stand tall and proud. Good luck!
I think that these are Asiatics and probably will need a bit of support; they're in a fairly open situation.
