40 years ago today, Sept 8th, 1966 Star Trek debuted on NBC here in the states. Where has the time gone?

I was but a twinkle in my mother's eye then.

Capt I was watching Star Trek: The Next Generation on TV the last day. I don't normally watch it (in fact I never really liked Star Trek) but I quite enjoyed it. Patrick Stewart makes a great captain.

I told my husband of this anniversay - he of course already knew. During our 30 years of marriage I have slept through many an episode of Star Trek . My husband is a great fan - I am not so I sleep quietly beside him while he watches. I tried not to snore when we were in the theater.

Even when the series was on tv, I thought it was kind of hokey, but then I was already an adult. I liked the movies better. I thought the best one was The Return Home. Where they went back in time and brought the 2 whales to the future.

I went through a real Trekker phase in my youth, had all the James Blish books, and when VCRs came around, I got all the original series on tape. I was more into the literature spawned by the imaginings of that world, reading many of the novels. (especially loved Black Fire, Uhura's Song, Ishmael and Doctor's Orders...) Only mildly got into New Generation as I was dealing with my children being babies then - my interests have wandered into other realms since, but I still have a soft spot for McCoy, my personal fave.
