    My new Water Butt!,..it surely will come in handy this year,..no more running into the house getting water from the kitchen or connecting the hose just to water a few plants,..though with all the accessories it has it doesn't state how much water it holds?.

    Apart from the Roses in bloom there are lots of wee flowers on the "Pulmonaria officinalis".

    My top plant of the year which has not stopped blooming since early last summer has to be the "Erysimum Linifolium,'Variegatum'.

    The blooms and Butt look great. Will it be used to catch rain water or will you have to fill it up?

    It comes with a kit,..you cut the downpipe and insert a diverter,..the water flows in through a pipe approx 3 inches below the lid,..when the butt is full the same pipes acts as an overflow and diverts the water back down the downpipe,..i can add a second butt alongside this one with a link pipe,..but one will be enough for me as we get enough rain,..its really to save me running in and out of the house or setting up the hose plus they have started putting water meters into some homes here in town.

    Save water. Save time. And maybe even money.
    Can't beat that!

    Your plants will love the rainwater, too! That is a handsome water barrel (when you said "starting spring with a butt" I thought you'd had a run-in with a goat!). Your plants are lovely--so lush!

    I have one of those but it's a 55 gal. plastic barrel with a water spout towards the bottom that sits under the guttering to catch the rain water. Works real good for me when watering plants!

    Collecting rainwater here in Texas is not an option--it's a necessity. My husband brought three of these 250 gal. fiberglass containers from work, and we attached two to guttering off the barn, and another off the garage. With 1" of rain we get about 750 gal. of water, not counting the three 55 gal. barrels we have collecting water off the house and workshop.
    They aren't as pretty as Philip's and only one has a hook-up for a hose, but we couldn't garden without them.

    Hi Philip, Well I did not know that thing was called a butt... I was thinking like Marlin a few posts ago, that you got the business end of a goat. Ahem.. Anyway, I call mine a water barrel and I love collecting rain water. My plants love it, it is so much easier than dragging the hose etc.
    So enjoy! ;)

    Hi Cheryl,
    yep it will surely save time,..when i think how often i had to go into the sitting room,..then the kitchen just to get water for plants i transplanted,..oh not forgetting to remove my dirty shoes, :rolleyes: ,..even though there is nobody there to scream,.."wipe your feet" the echo is still there from waaaaaay back,lol.

    =====================================================

    Hi Droopy,
    i am pleased with the new butt,..its something i had on the long finger,..its overflowing at present,..lots of fine mist around here of late and so the reason my plants all look so green.

    ====================================================

    Hi Jane,
    lol,..i was wondering how to explain my butt when heading the post,..i picked the safest heading to come to mind.

    Those are fantastic containers you have,..with 250 gals in each plus three 55 gal containers off the house and workshop you do very well when it rains never mind how they look,..in fact they look well!.

    ====================================================

    Hi okietriker,
    i must say welcome to the forum,..you arrived when i was AWOL for a spell,..i must ask what type of bike do you have,..i am presuming from the leather attire that i am on the right track.

    Yep a 55 gal plastic barrel will do the job just as good.

    ====================================================

    Hi Kay,
    i was only aware of late that the old barrel was now called a water butt, :rolleyes: ,..thankfully i have not encountered a goat of late,..BUT there is always a possibility as we are in a farming area.

    Hey Phillip,
    I have a Suzuki Intruder trike with a Lehman kit. Love it and can't wait til the weather warms up enough to ride everyday.

    My goodness gracious, that is one HUGE bike! A neighbor down the road has a bike, but it looks like a miniature compared to yours!
