Has anyone heard about the troopers being shot last Friday in northeastern Pa? That is happening near my home. Many local schools are closed especially during the funeral of the trooper on Thursday. How sad this is.....It turns out the shooter is a suvivalist. Such a young man of 31 years. What happens to these people to make them do such horrible things??? How do they get to a place like that???? http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/09/16/au ... -troopers/
I heard about it. Awful that it happened. Prayers for the families of the troopers. YOU keep your doors locked. but unfortunately we can't live in a bubble and we must have faith that we will be okay, even in times of distressing events going on all round us.
Yes Barb it is so sad and scary. They definitely are not playing with a full deck. They just do not a few screws loose. They are missing a lot of them. Hard to imagine that anyone can do such a thing. We just had a guy kill his estranged wife on her front lawn and then kill himself. It was only about 3 miles away from us out here in the country. She had a restraining order against him as he had threatened to kill her before. They where going through a very bad divorce. She never came home without someone else with her. That is how scared of him she was. But that night she didn't have anyone to accompany her home. Sure enough, he jumped out of some bushes, pushed her to the ground. She was screaming and a couple of guys heard her and went to investigate and the guy shot at them. They called the police but it was to late. Boy, if that guy thought his life was hellish here. He is going to be very surprised by the place I believe he ended up. That is so sad that she had to die.
My BIL was a sheriff many years ago. He was serving a warrant for a guy to clean up his yard. Instead he shot him. His wife make him give up his job after he got well. I would have also. Let me tell you, when I see a cop stopping someone I watch carefully.....I sometimes will pull over way, way up after I pass them just to watch.... make sure the cop is not being shot at. It's really terrible these days.
It's crackpots like these that give survivalists and law abiding gun owners like myself a bad name... 1000s upon 1000s of people practice being survivalists each day (often with their own family). And many teach their kids how to responsibly handle firearms. But in comes just one crackpot with anger management issues - And all gun owners are seen as bad people... So for me, this is the real tragedy over here.
It is truly sad. My heart goes out to the family and to all policemen. We are responsible gun owners and hunters, and not once, ever thought of turning one on another person...except in self defense. As the article said, it is a crime agaist us all.
Have they caught the person who shot the trooper yet Barb? I do hope so before he takes more lives. Our law enforcement officers risk their lives daily for our benefit but shouldn't have to die in the line of duty. I think they should all be equipped with bullet and stab proof vests at the very least.
They haven't caught him yet. They are on high alert because the funeral is today. They are thinking with all the police attending it, this guy may want to shoot at the crowd. Streets and schools are closed off, at least for the morning.
Barb at the moment you pull over like that you become a threat to him, the officer has no idea who you are. He/she doesn't know if they have just been 'set up' to be attacked and they certainly are not thinking "oh, gee, that's a kindly citizen who is looking out for my safety" By pulling over you have taken the officer's fear to a higher level and could have put not only him but yourself in danger. The absolute best thing you could do, is to make sure that all the officers in your town or county have been issued bullet proof vests and other necessary equipment to protect themselves.
Vest...I know they all have new ones. I surely don't pull over right ahead of them. I actually go slow until I am almost out of sight and then pull off until I see everything is ok with the traffic stop. I was just talking to my hubby about this. He always thinks about his brother almost dying because everyone heard the shot but no one did anything about it. That has to be one of the worst jobs in the world. Walking up to an unknown person in the dark. I surely wouldn't want to do it. I have been out on the country roads today delivering eggs and kept an eye out for someone off road in the woods. This guy could be anywhere.
Such a terrible, needless tragedy. We had 3 Mounties killed and two others wounded in an ambush in my home city this summer. The young man who did it just had a hate on for any law officers. So he just picked these 5 at random. That part of the city was in lock down for almost a week until they arrested him. These Mounties were all young with families. Remembering what the city of Moncton went through and the hurt and heartbreak of the entire police force. My heart really goes out to the family and colleagues of the state trooper.
I didn't hear about that. I agree, it's such a waste. How do these people acquire such hatred....for officials. How this person is on the 10 most wanted list. So that means they think he left the area.
Getting closer.... Now they are searching about 15 miles from my house. Now I really am locking the doors. Not that it will help. I definitely more aware when leaving my house. I also look toward the french doors and scan quite often. We have a ton of vacant homes around here along with deep woodland. Many houses are second homes of people who only will visit for Christmas now until Spring.
Just be very vigilant, Barb. As silly as it sounds , those vacant homes are more likely to be a target for him than you or your chicken coop for protection and food. Although, I would come to your house if I was indeed hungry and be begging for some samples from that pantry and a tour of the greenhouse and garden and coop.
