Stem, about 15" tall with round green, with rose tinted, leaves

    Just this one stem is growing in my yard along a tall retaining wall.
    It is in a shady area near my Comfrey.

    I would say a tree or a shrub. probably a "pull it" kind. I don't think it is a bradford calary pear but it reminds me of one...

    It looks like a Barberry seedling (Berberis)
    You'll know by the little barbs on it

    Thank you both.
    I was thinking that, but I didn't see barbs. Maybe it is too young still.
    My neighbor has a barberry bush. I'm guessing an animal must have taken a berry and dropped it here.
