Smells like a bottle of perfume! You can smell it from about 10 ft away.

I love stock in the garden and MUST have night scented stock every year without fail. Its scent is strongest around 8pm just when you want to sit and relax in the garden - perfect!! :-D

Are stock the same as Phlox? They look similar and very pretty.

I have just ordered some night scented stock seeds funnily enough. They look fab and I can't wait to grow some in my garden next year.

Both of those flowers look just like Phlozx that I have in my garden.
Are "Stock" the same as Phlox?

I am now 100% sure that the pinkish one is in fact a Phlox....the Phlox paniculata. See http://www.gardenstew.com/plantstew/30973
---and click to the second image.
It is a beautiful thing, isn't it?
I believe that stocks also have flowers growing out from a central syem sort of like a Delphenium.

You are very right. The leaves and flowers of the stock as also a bit velvety. Here is the best picture I could find of stock. It is the white flowers. All the flowers grow right on in stem.

I have the pink and white flowers growing here and it is definately phlox.
