Please help, Im collecting my first set of seeds from my garden flowers this year which include Annual Phlox, Coreopsis Tinctoria, Marigold Tall Scotch Prize and Dahlia Mignon. I just want to know if I can store them in tin foil? (just folded over to keep the air out). I got this idea from the fact that I bought them in little bags lined with aluminium foil on the inside. I also need to know whether or not it is a good idea to keep my Annual Phlox seeds in their little seed pods? They look so safe and dry in there and as they are so tiny my instinct says to keep them in their pods. I know seeds should be kept dry and cool and in a dark place. I keep my seeds in envelopes. I think that unless the seeds were very dry, they may get moldy wrapped in foil. I've had many-a-wrapped seed get moldy and it seems they keep best in envelopes. Just my own experience...
I also keep my seeds in envelopes. Would it be possible to post a pict of your phlox seed pod? I been watching our neighbors flowers and haven't seen anything that looks like a pod. Have only heard of replanting by root division.
Phlox Seed Pods Thanks for the replies guys. I have taken out my Phlox seed pods to take a pic. To my delight I can see that they have started 'exploding' which is what I read they do So it looks like they will just burst out when they are good and ready :~) Hopefully I will successfully manage to post a pic this time. Last time you ended up with rose petals instead because the other images were to big to upload. This time I set my camera at 3mp instead of 8mp so I hope it will upload ok. The seed pods are a light brown/wheat colour and about 2mm in diameter. They can be found right where the centre of the old flower used to be. You may have to wait a while for them to dry out. If your neighbour is busy 'dead heading' the plants you wont get a chance to collect any of the seeds. My phlox plants have just started a second flowering and I didn't 'dead head' them at all! Now I have many new buds ready to bloom right alongside the old ones that are producing seeds. It's very easy to collect them. You just gently twist them away between two fingers. If they are ready they will fall off immediately. If not just try again the next day and check the ground as well. Hope this helps, Thanks again, FloweringSpirit

I always keep mine in the large envelopes but a person that does a lot of gardening told me to keep them in jars.. he said so the air doesn't get at them...I suppose in case it is humid or if they are stored close to water. I am not sure.
Thanks for those pics of the phlox seeds, Flow. I was just this a.m. peering at my phlox trying to figure out what I was looking at. Now I know. I like that rose petal pic too -- it's lovely.
