I've been reading in the Houston Chronicle about the storms/tornadoes/flooding in the Houston area. Cheryl, are you all right? I hope you didn't have any of the high winds and flooding, and that your power stayed on. Let us know how you are.
I was wondering about any of you, not knowing exactly where each of you lived in relation to the storm. I hope you are all ok.
I saw on the weather channel this afternoon where Houston had some severe weather and some places had high winds and damage to houses but they didn't call it a tornado. Here an hour and a half north we just had rain, rain, rain and more rain. The ditches are full and the fields are floating. It's supposed to continue until tomorrow. The worst of it went south and east of us right across Cherylad. I've been thinking about her all day. They had 4 or 5 inches of rain, too. I do hope she was inside and safe. dooley
Fingers crossed that Cheryl and everyone else in the Houston area are OK. We've recently has winds of 105 mph with torrential rain so I'm hoping that Houston hasn't sustained the damage that we've had in our area.
They need rain-but not like that. And seen the wind damage.Tried calling my friend there. Prayer everyone is ok.And this strange weather pattern quits.
Hi all... Houston always floods when it gets more than a couple of inches of rain. Some areas south of Houston got close to 7 inches in just a few hours. And like Dooley said... the ditches are full and fields have standing water. I'm northeast of Houston, we got almost 3.5 inches of rain here at the house! woohooo! I didn't notice any kind of damage on my commute home. Just all that lovely water!
I'm glad to hear that your commute to and from work will not by ark with a guy named Noah. Jerry P.S. Rowboats anyone? P.S.S. While they are on the radar, do the pesky ants need rowboats?
Jerry... the ants make their own boats. They will build a floating mound of... yep... each other! Maybe there's a piece of debris as the base, but the mounds can be as large as a dinner plate. Just floating along. Just one more reason not to trudge through standing water around here.
Cheryl, a relief to hear that you just got beneficial rain and no damage. We got rain, no high winds or flooding, although we do have puddles--Yippee!
I think most of the flooding was in the usual low lying road areas. I still can't believe people try to drive through or across that much water. Stalled vehicles only add to the problem. And it probably wouldn't have been as bad IF someone would make sure the drain grates were kept clear... or at least get crews out there just before you know a major storm is coming. Yep.. the south side of Houston got it pretty bad with the tornadoes. On the northside, we're thankful for a good amount of rain and no damage.
I was glad to hear that all of you who live in Texas where the storms were are ok. Can't imagine being flooded out and then hit by tornado's besides. We are sooooo blessed living where we do. Cherylad I wonder if the ants are singing, Row, Row, Row your boat?
So far we have only gotten about 2 inches of rain in total, some thunder but no high winds....we were in a weaker section of the storms when they passed over us...as usual. Glad your area got all that rain, we are not as dry as Houston, just our water supply lake is getting emptier by the day Cheryl, you description of the ants crossing water reminds me of the Charlton Heston movie The Naked Jungle... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047264/ Those MARABUNTA aka Army Ants, did that floating mound of ants and they used leaves as boats to cross water
