Yesterday (Sunday) we went to Valldal to buy strawberries. Valldal is located to the east of here, and we drive along "our" fjord all the way there. We usually make a trip every late summer, just to gorge, since the strawberries from Valldal are the absolute best-tasting strawberries. :D

I thought you'd like to see a bit of the fields:

Here's a creative little strawberry kiosk:

The berries were superb! Big, juicy and tasty:

Then we went to have a look at Trollstigen, a road opened by King Haakon VII in 1936, and took eight years to build.

The road is only open in summer, and is one of the best visited sites in Norway. Why? Well, this is why:

I've posted plenty of photos from the way up, the road Trollstigen itself and the way back down in my blog. The thread is called Strawberry Spin-Off. I hope you'll enjoy the photos.

Wow, what a huge strawberry farm and gorgeous scenery.
Glad you took that photo from the top of the road, I would never have been able to do that.

It would have taken you hours to get me away from those fields. I'd have to examine the plants in situ and speak with the farmer and all sorts of other things.

I enjoyed seeing these foto's very much.

I wonder Droopy--do you happen to know the name of the sort of strawberries these were? If they taste so good...I may need to incorporate them into my "collection".

The foto of the punnet of strawbs really got my parotid gland working over time. They looked lovely. Did you buy them that way, or were you allowed to pick them yourselves?

    Thanks all. :D

The drive in takes about an hour and a half, so we drove for three hours to buy 7 kgs of berries. And we ate them all. :D We're probably more than averagely fond of strawberries.

Sjoerd, I've no idea what kind of strawberries they are. We were never introduced. And the farmers would probably chuck you out of their fields. They're so busy these days. We saw no signs of "pick yorself", but it's too early in the season. They usually let us at the fields when the season's winding down.

There are fields upon fields lined up, Eileen. You and I would have spent weeks walking up and down those fields, gorging. What a lovely thought. :D

I would love to visit those great strawberry fields.I would be so afraid to go up and down those winding roads.I'm so afraid of height.

Thanks all. :D We finished the last strawberries on Tuesday morning. :D

Glenda, I think you would have loved the view, well away from the edges of the cliffs. The road up isn't very steep.
