The berries on the mulberry tree are starting to ripen, so they are full of birds and squirrels. I was setting at the kitchen table eating lunch and was watching them in the tree. All of a sudden a squirrel falls out of the tree! He looks around to see if anyone was watching, then runs over to the base of the tree and goes right back up! He hadn't eaten too many berries, he was trying to go out on a limb that wouldn't hold him to get some ripe berries! :)

Captain, are you quite sure your mulberries haven't fermented?

There are a lot of squirrelly squirrels around here. The young ones are venturing out, learning the ropes. I always get a kick when I see one fall from a branch they've gone too far out on.

I have watched as squirrels have fallen 30 feet , get up and walk/run away. Resilient creatures!

They are so silly! I was also surprised to see how clumsy they are!

Last year we saw an entire nest fall from a tree! The squirrel sat on a woodpile for a while, looking around he chose a tree that was so close to falling down it was leaning at a 45º angle! He quickly built a new home! A week later during some heavy wind the tree did what it threatened to do, it fell and landed on the shed, it was a small, tree, so it leaned against the shed but the nest was only a few feet above the shed'd roof! The squirrel had fallen onto the roof and sat there swishing its tail and chirping. It continued living in the nest for the rest of the year. It finally disappeared, leaving a pile of leaves on the roof! I was surprised that the squirrel was so dumb and thrilled to have been around to watch the soap opera!

If we didn't have this tree level screen room, we would have gotten a lot more done in this house!
