If they were smart, they would go out along the driveway where I just mowed and shelled about 800 walnuts for them. But no, they have to stay up here and try to figure out how to steal the peanuts I put out for the birds!
I mulched lebes down there and couldn't beleive the number of walnuts on the ground. The trees have the most that I have ever seen on them.
Maybe the squirrels are suffering from walnut overload and have decided to have a change of diet for a while. Seriously though I suppose peanuts are much easier, and quicker, for them to get a meal from and that's why they're munching on them and leaving the walnuts alone.
As an experiment, I wonder which a squirrel would choose if it had to make choice between selecting a shelled walnut or shelled peanut. If it took both nuts, which nut would it choose first. Jerry
