My wife had a couple of heels from a loaf of bread that she tore into small pieces for the birds. She had thrown them out in the front yard. Usually the Bluejays swoop in right away and grab them up. This time a squirrel came along and ate 2 of them, then he grabbed up a third and took it further down the yard and buried it. For some reason, I don't think it will be there when he goes back for it!
Squirrels, especially gray ones have a very short memory. The location of hidden food is forgotten as soon as it turns around. It's lucky to remember where its nest is at the end of the day. Around here crows take advantage the squirrel's short memory. Jerry
