As the weather heats up and it rains more often...the flowers begin showing their stuff. Here are some of what's blooming at the moment in the flower garden. I have two sorts of Heleniums in the garden--orangy-yellow ones and Reddish ones. First the orangy-yellows: Then the reddish ones that I placed across the path from the orangy-yellows: A couple of nice and richly coloured hollyhocks: Can anyone identify this one for me? I got from Netty two lotties up the path from me. She doesn't know the name and neither do I. I've just been calling it, "Netty's Bloom".
It looks like a Scabiosa bloom, Sjoerd. I love the color of the Hollyhock. All flowers are lovely. Gardengater
It's not a Scabiosa...that's for sure, although it looks very much like one. This plant is ~4½ inches high and has only one bloom stem. It is an annual.
Netty's bloom....I like the sounds of that name Sjoerd! Your blooms are very pretty. I wish I knew the real name of "Netty's flower"!
Lovely blooms, I especially liked the hollyhocks. That dark red really knocked me out! I need to get some Helenium at some point, once we've made a good place for them. I think your Netty's bloom is an annual Iberis, they're called "Candytuft" if I'm not totally mistaken.
Oh those hollyhocks are such a beautiful colour and the heleniums are so bright and cheerful. I think that Netty's blooms are candytuft too.

Droopy...you are a smart cookie. I believe that it is indeed the Iberis umbellata. I have the white Iberis (perennial) growing in the garden, and although its; flowers are so similar, I never thought of it. Perhaps that was because the starl white Ibiris blooms in the spring and this umbellata is a definate summer bloomer and it is an annual. ---See sometimes one just needs to get someone else to look at the problem with fresh eyes. I am really happy that you have identified it Droopy and Eileen (not to forget). I once got an enormous amount of seeds from Netty and I plant some every year. These little plants germinate so easily and you really don't have to do a thing to them...just sit back and wait for them to bloom. I have always planted them with generous space around and inbetweeen them, but I think that next year, I shall plant them closer together and make a sort of 'carpet' effect. That should be no problem because they make lots of seeds that are very easy to harvest.
