I worked two hours on the summer reading program. I made the phone calls and have all the seven programs outlined and one or two finished. Since I have an outline it should go faster now. We have someone coming from a no-kill cat shelter, a local vet to talk about dogs, a wildlife rescue shelter volunteer to talk about what not to have for pets, a librarian who knows about snakes and lizards and someone to talk about caged birds. All I need is someone who can give a presention on little furry animals (gerbils, hamsters and bunnies) Maybe I can talk the vet into doing it. I might stop at a pet store tomorrow and see if they have someone who might be willing to do it. We have a limited budget so the more I can get free the more we have for prizes. Dan and I have to set down and work out the point system. How many points for the different type books, etc? Do easy books count less? Some children can only read easy books and some children can't read so the parent reads to them? Are non-fiction books worth more than fiction books? Thick books more than thin books? Maybe reading on grade level should count. no easy books for the 8 to 10 crowd. It's a puzzlement for sure. Dooley
Oh I like the sound of all the people you've managed to get to give talks Dooley. Wish I could be there to join in as it sounds like just the kind of thing I'd be interested in. Hope you find someone to talk about the small animals for you. Let us know how it turns out won't you?
I agree with Eileen, it sounds great Dooley. Can I sign up? I would love to attend the snakes and lizards presentation. BTW I just wanted to add that I love your's and DR's new avatars What prompted you to add them?
Well, I didn't seem to mind if I had one or now but DR wanted a desert rat. So, Dan came and found him a desert rat. I decided since I'm using Dooley as a user name that I should have a turtle. Dooley Turtle is a character is some kids stories I write. The main character is a rabbit named Boomer. I've sent them to a few publishers of kids books but I'm still receiving rejection notices. DR just bought me a book called, "Writing Children's Books for Dummies." I'm still waiting for time to read it. I guess it will have to be fit in here and there. Dooley
Dooley I hope you find a person for the small animals soon. I wish I lived near you I could have done the caged birds!! Good luck with the kid stories!! Your's and DR's life sounds sooo interesting!!
