My uncle's pride and joy was his White Dinner Plate Hibiscus. Last year I grabbed some seeds while we were helping my aunt clean up the flower beds. Started them this winter, planted it around the middle of May. Had to protect it from the water hose being drug around. Ha ha cherylad, I like it, Uncle Frank has bloomed Looks like you are going to have a beautiful plant there, lovely bloom.
Uncle Frank puts out beautiful blooms. Goodness, you can grow pretty much anything from seed and get a beautiful plant. This year I can barely get seeds to germinate much less grow and bloom.
Isn't it wonderful that a tiny seed can produce such a plant with such perfect blooms? The last two photographs are my favourites. Well done. :-D
Thanks everyone! I had no clue it would even bloom the first year... let alone a big one. The other day my aunt was asking if the plant had died or not. Died??? No way! I told her it had plenty of buds. I attribute the plant's success to talking to it every time I tended to it. I'd say stuff like: "Good afternoon/morning Uncle Frank... you're looking good today." Or.. "Hey old man... you need a drink? (he used to be a heavy "drinker" long time ago and until his dying day kept me a beer in the fridge for when I visited). And other stuff like that. This morning I told it "Hot dang Uncle Frank! Thanks for the lovely bloom.... finally!" Toni... I've had so many failures with seeds, seedlings, plants. You don't think I'm going to post about those... do you??!!!
Wow, Uncle Frank is a handsome guy, haha. What a beautiful plant and flower. Your patience and care paid off.
Lovely big handsome flower and buds galore suggests you will be over the moon,..but curb the plant talking,..you will find yourself talking to strange things in public places ,..ahem,..speaking from experience, .
Too late Philip. I already talk to all sorts of inanimate objects. I just gave the weedeater a good talking to today... and the water hose knows it's next in line if it doesn't start acting right.
Very nice. I also love surprises. Last week I went to my parents house and dad said "come with me in the street. i wanna show u something". MY flower garden was in the street. and he showed me the huge bloom on my white hibiscus. he said "there are a couple of spent blooms, they were open the other day". I LIKED IT...dad checks my garden out! pretty sure he also showed it to mom!
