Bunkie, thank you! I love this idea. Do you think you can use sunflower seeds in bird mixtures? Or are they treated in some way not to sprout? I know I get little sunflower sprouts all over my yard in the spring from the Black Oil Sunflowers I feed the birds.

i don't know drissel. i have a friend who using them and so far so good. i just found a sunflower heaad in our loft from 2 years ago aand am going to use that.

i would check out the company of the bird seed you have and google a bit to see how they grow it. it's so hatd today, with no real labeling to see if stuff is genetically modified (GMOs) or grown with chemicals.

Drissel the sunflowers in my bird food mix sprout without any problems all over the garden. I'm forever plucking them out of the soil and planters so I would imagine yours would grow very well for you. The striped ones and the black ones germinate here with a little help from the birds. ;)
