Last night (3/19/2011) I went down to the creekside and watched the perigee moon rise. It was significant because its was a full moon and its path was the closest it has been to Earth in almost 19 years. The next time it will happen this way will be in 2016! The experts say it appeared 14% larger and 30% brighter... It was really lovely. My mom used to say this nursery rhyme: "I see the Moon and the Moon sees me, The Moon sees somebody I'd like to see. God bless the moon and God bless me, And God bless the somebody I'd like to see." Well, to all of my Garden Stew buddies -- you're the Somebodies I'd like to see! Did anyone else take a picture of the perigee moon? It was cloudy here on Sat night. But I did see it Sat. morn. early, before it set. Was really bright.
I admired the moon, but didn't take any photos. The pictures are never as pretty as the real moon. It sure was pretty!
We saw it and it was stunning. I know when we have a really big, clear full moon as it shines into our bathroom at about 3am, just when I am popping in there and I don't need to switch on any lights.
We saw the "super moon" as we sat on the patio last night. We also had the effect in our bedroom, which faces southeast and gets quite a bit of moonlight. It was lovely, and we enjoyed the moonglow!
We saw it after it was well up in the sky but it did look bigger and a bit brighter than normal...we have too many houses and buildings between us and the horizon to be able to see it rise. Was it just me or did anyone else start singing the Hamm's Blue Ribbon Beer commercial song upon seeing photo #3? From the land of sky blue waters, waters....guess I am showing my age. Beautiful photos DB.
I have to agree with Netty -- the pictures hardly do justice, especially to the brightness of it. There was a family down there watching it too, and the dad had a fancy camera. He showed me a couple of his pictures and they were stunning... even still, they didn't compare to the real thing. It's neat to think that we all see the same moon... thanks for the comments!
I finally got a chance to see it tonight as there was too much cloud before. Oh boy is it beautiful!!
Didnt see it, was cloudy and I went to sleep early. Plus the moon was on the other side of our apartment building. *sad* Cant see teh moon tonight either, still cloudy! Did see some of the light poking through the clouds though, it was orange
Through breaks in the clouds moonrise was at 8:35 tonight at a distance of 356,779 it was extra big. The wonders of the universe in our back yard. Nice sight. Jerry
Daisybeans, your moon is so much more beautiful than the moon I saw here on the night of the 19th. even though it is the same moon. Great pictures!
We couldn't see it because of the clouds, but we got a look at it the night before. Your photos are very nice.
Thanks for the comments! I'm glad I could see it on Saturday as some clouds rolled in last night and I couldn't see it again. That was really a fun thing to see though.
Very nice fotos, Daisy. It was almost like being right there. The fotos give one a nice feeling don't they...such an ambience.
