I have to do that don't I? Support the little guy so they can successfully compete against the chain nurseries and big box stores. It's my duty and obligation, right? Come on you would have done it too, I know you would have.

The place is a nursery we have passed by a couple of times a year in a section of the county we don't travel through unless we want a Griff's burger, which is really good. In the past it has either been in the heat of summer and we know I won't be wandering around outside even in a plant store in the heat of summer....or the dead of winter when I would gladly wander around outside through plants but since there are no plants available at that time of the year doesn't happen either. But today their sign informed me that they now had herb and veggie plants and some perennials. Sooooooo..... the result of my foray through their greenhouse.

Kniphofia 'Flamenco Mix' which I have never found for sale around here
Basil, Garden Sage, Berggarten Sage, Greek Oregano, Sweet Fennel, Nasturiums and Creeping Jenny

They will stay in the backroom until the nights warm back above freezing which should be Monday night, then I plant them later in the week.

I will not insult us all by making a promise to not by any more plants for the rest of the month because you and I all know that it's a promise that ain't gonna happen. ;)

Toni, thank you for single-handedly supporting the local nurseries!
You'll love the Berggarten Sage, it's very reliable and tastes great. I've tried the Greek and the Italian oreganos, and prefer the Italian. Let us know what you think of the Greek.
I'm not making any silly resolutions about not buying plants either. The guest bedroom has three shelves of seedlings and I am still a target for every little plant I see that says "take me home!"

Way to go Toni! Now I feel obliged to help my little local economy. Give me a couple of weeks... I'll be trying to buy a few things locally. And then a few more things.... :stew2:

I feel the same way :-D I try to support our local nursery. However the original owners sold in 2010 and last summer the new people had it so expensive I could hardly afford to even look  That's okay though, I ventured out in a different direction and found another one! My mother in law actually gave me a gift certificate for my birthday last summer and it has no expiration date!!! I keep telling myself I can't buy too many annuals this year because of the drought situation. If we don't get a lot of moisture soon I won't be able to water my yard or plants :( Besides the fact that it won't be warm enough until very late May or June to plant anything too tender.

I am hoping that my 4 rain barrels will get me through this spring and summer. The watering restrictions here are limited to two days a week and according to the last digit of my address my days are Wednesday and Saturday.

Even though we didn't have official watering restrictions this past summer... I did my best to conserve. I must put another rain barrel on the top of my list!

I guess we should feel lucky as we have a good well and a rainbarrel. However, I think I'll have to get a part time job at our local small nursery and work for plants! I'm wanting so many different ones I don't think we can afford them. I am going to start some from seeds and hope they do good.
