I use it in my container pots. Makes both the purple and the green color. It makes a lovely accent draping over the pot. You can see a very lush one here, in one of my pots.
I had two sweet potatoes that were getting a mite old back in the spring so instead of throwing them in the compost I potted them up and have had two vines all summer.
Not sure if its the same plant but sweet potatoes that have been planted will produce slips which are popular in stir fries !! I think the ones the nurseries sell are a bit different from a regular sweet potato !! Love your deck Ronni !!
Remember your Mom sticking toothpicks into the sides of a sweet potato and placing it in a jar/glass of water to get a huge vine out of it? Those vines are the slips that you plant to get your sweet potatoes. If you just stick the whole potato in the ground or a pot of dirt and let it grow you have a really pretty house plant.
