The weather here the past week has been very good for working in the garden. I have had a week vacation and put in long days there. In spite of the work I felt that i had to periodically take time to look at the flowers. I took the time to make some pictures while I looked, but was too knackerd when I got home to post anything. There are only two plots that still must be cleaned, so I will work on those this weekend, if it isn't too hot. The flower garden looks patchy, in terms of blooming flowers. There are still great areas of green yet that must still come into bloom. The "green" I am talking about are plants that will supply the next wave of colour. I like to have a succession of bloomers throughout the season for gracing my own eyes, but also for the bees. The first foto is one of the few overviews that I have captured on film, so to speak. There are a number of different flowers to see here: Trollius chinensis, Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile', Crocosmia 'Lucifer' and a geranium sort. Three Trollius chinensis in a row. A shot of the shadow of a trollius twig behind a wide, green Crocosmia leaf. There was a borage plant that grew-up in the fence row where I had sowed a bed full for green manure last year. I usually do not let them bloom, but their flowers are sky blue and quite lovely to look at...and the honey bees love them. The yellow Lonicera Flava looks very good this year. That rose-like poppy is still blooming for me and each bloom is lovelier than the preceding one. This light blue Delphinium does the trick for me. I think that I need a few more of these. This lovely, crimson Knautia Macedonica caught my eye when a bumble bee landed on it nest to my shoulder as I was fotographing another flower nearby. ...and finally the cistus is looking especially good in spite of loosing a third of it's branches to the cold.
You have the most beautiful blooms in your garden. Borage, I forgot to get some Borage seeds, darn it. This I will order some to plant out this fall. I love the photo of the Trollius shadow on the Crocosmia leaf.
Sjoerd - your garden photos are all so perfect. Great eye! I would never have thought of photographing the borage, even though I love the look of its bee enticing blooms and big leaves. I am waiting for my Knautia Macedonica to bloom. It is a new-to-me plant (got it in a trade). Yours has such a deep inviting color. My anticipation grows. The Trollius chinensis with all the other colorful flowers behind them is perfect. What are the white and blue flowers? Toni - if you want borage seed or root? PM me and I will send you some when the time is right. I have a huge plant that has survived the 30 years I've lived here. (no small feat for a plant) Just let me know when you want it sent.
Lovely blooms as always, Sjoerd. You have a good eye for good shots. Now, I wish our T. chinensis could get up and go. Don't forget to upload your Knautia to the PlantStew, it looks a lot better than my photo.
Gosh you have some lovely flowers there Sjoerd. I really like the yellow Lonicera Flava - wish my honeysuckles were that striking colour. The delphinium and the borage are beautiful shades of blue and that poppy is simply gorgeous.
Thanks so much, TONI--Thanks too for liking the shadow from behind of the Trollius stem and the Crocosmia leaf. I liked that one myself. Sometimes it's the little almost unnoticable things in a garden that i appreciate so much. I hope you can get hold of some Borage seeds. I will be planting it in large swathes after the beans and spuds have been harvested. Thank you JEWELL-- It is so nice of yoiu to say so. I hope that the Knautia does well for you. A single plant can make a big clump and bloom for a couple of months. The blooms get smaller and smaller--but more numerous as the season progresses. The white and blue flowers are Delphinium. I think that the sort is "Summer Skies". DROOPY--Thank you for your nice words. I am glad that you like the the fotos of the plants. I hope that your Trollius will get on the ball and start showing colour. I could upload the Knautia, but don't you think that the presence of the hommel might distract from the bloom?
oops! I think our postings crossed, EILEEN--Thanks for your comments on the pics this time. This season may be late in coming, but many of the blooms are doing so well, that it makes up for the tardiness.
You are so lucky to have such a beautiful collection of flowers growing on your allotment alongside all of your lovely veg. Like you, there is less colour at the moment now the spring flowers have all finished and the summer flowers are just starting to do their things. I love the trolius, a stunning colour.
Thanks BUNKIE--Glad you liked 'em. EJ--Thank you for your complimentary words. That Trollius truly is a stunning flower to behold in real life. I like the deepness of the yellow, it really stands out.
Your Delphinium is gorgeous Sjoerd! I have pink one but the color of yours really grabs me. I like Borage and let it bloom ... it attracts lots of bees
Oooh, I don't know where to start with my admiring! They're all just beautiful. Love the orange trollius and the lonicera because you know, orange is my favorite color... The borage is lovely itself and I really like the detail of that photo too. And the cistus caught my eye today -- delicate and strong at the same time. Thanks for the flower show, Sjoerd!
