Last weekend we got to to go for a 2 hour ride...they couldn't put up the sails in the area we were in but it was still a nice time....here are some of the pictures...Next year I would like to go earlier and have more time to check things out.It draws a pretty good crowd. Here is what was on a website about them... Twelve vintage vessels will sail into the Port of Green Bay, dock on the shores of the Fox River and host a three day festival as part The Great Lakes United Tall Ship Challenge 2010 ®. Green Bay is one of only six ports in the USA and Canada and the only port in Wisconsin to be honored as a host. I really enjoyed looking at your photographs Sherry as it took me back a few years. There was a Tall ship event at the Port of Leith (where I was born) a few years ago and I had a wonderful day just walking around and looking at them all. Sadly I didn't have a camera with me that day so it's great to see your pictures.
What a nice festival, Sherry. It is fun seeing all those old ships. We will have a festival here next weekend. It is called "Sail 2010". If the weather is good there will be so many folks that it will be difficult to walk about there.
Thanks for posting those. I'm really fond of the old ships. They're so graceful. We had a Tall Ships Race stop here a few years back and I'm hoping they will come back. It was spectacular, all those ships and the crews' performances in the street parade.
They are beautiful ships. We have tall ships come into the Chesapeake Bay(Baltimore and Annapolis) each year. There is a race from Baltimore to Norfolk VA too. I wonder if one of the ships you saw was the Pride of Baltimore from Maryland? PS The last time I saw Green Bay, it was frozen over and we drove waaaay out on the "road" they had cleared to where the little ice fishing huts were. In the distance we could see the big trucks driving across the Bay. It was a really memorable experience.
Daisybeans...I am sorry I only have the name of the one I was on. It was the Appledore IV. I am glad everyone is enjoying seeing them...I would of liked to take a ride on the largest ships too.
