Hi all, A few days ago I noticed as I was trimming my hedges that there was a new vine growing up from the ground just at the perimeter of the hedge. The vine itself was a pale green with star shaped leaves spaced pretty evenly apart from each other about 3 to 4 inches. Unfortunately I had already cut the base of the vine before I realized it was there. So I don't have a picture of it. I know in time it will grow back, but I'm not sure how long. I also noticed (if this matters) within about 1 minute of the vine being cut the vine and leaves started to noticeably wilt. So anyone have any ideas? If it starts to sprout again and shows any leaves I will promptly take a picture and post it here. Thanks in advance, Patrick
Mmmm hard to say without a photograph. Maybe a young Virginia creeper or five-leaved ivy (Parthenocissus quinquefolia.)
Thanks for the reply Eileen. After looking at the Parthenocissus quinquefolia on google, I'd have to say that's not it. The leaf looks a lot more like a maple, but in a star shape. I completely understand not being able to say without seeing a pic. I'll see if maybe there's some other's around the neighborhood I can photograph. Edit: I actually found a juvenile leaf on a small vine nearby. 2 pics. One with the dead leaves (they died off fast) showing the spacing of leaves between each, the second is the young leaf. Near the stem the 2 points aren't very pronounced, but as the leaf gets bigger the points extend more. The young leaf is about 1-1/2 inches from the base of the stem to the tip of the farthest point. moderator's note: added photos from album to post
