The raspberry harvest has begun, but they are totally tasteless. The variety is the very reliable Glen Ample which is usually delicious. I am assuming the lack of flavour is due to the unprecedented amounts of rain we have had over the last few weeks and the lack of lovely hot sunshine?
Oh, I am so sad to hear this for you. that is such a bummer. there is nothing like a tasty raspberry. We have had it hot and dry for the past several weeks and the berries are just coming on. The one row is fabulous ( and I have no idea what it is.) and the Carolines... blech-y as ever to me. I keep hoping that they eventually taste better but maybe I am expecting too much.
Watermelons and cantaloupes are the same way. When too much rain the sugars do not concentrate to create the flavor we know and like. The blackberries here were not as sweet as they should be for the same reason,,too much rain.
Okay, well it is certainly interesting to read that it's not just me and my raspberries. I wonder if I will have the same problem with my tomatoes.....?
Yep... and mealy, too. But be patient and keep picking ( and composting ) until the weather gets better. I hope for you soon.
I lost 80% of my early tomatoes from all the rain. My later plantings are just starting to produce and they are fine.
